Image descriptions
Describe meaningful images
People using screen readers may miss information that images provide. The checker counts images missing an alt attribute. Empty alt="" is allowed because it may correctly mark decorative images.
- 01
Step 1
For each meaningful image, write a short description of its purpose, not a filename.
- 02
Step 2
Use alt="" only for images that are genuinely decorative.
- 03
Step 3
Add the alt attribute on the img element itself.
- 04
Step 4
Run the checker again. Remaining warnings often mean a few images still have no alt attribute at all.
The audit cannot judge whether the wording is a good description. It only reports missing attributes and empty values that should be reviewed.
